Golden Triangle- India’s golden triangle is a tourist circuit that connects the national capital,  New  Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. The Golden Triangle is so named because of the triangular shape formed by their locations on a map and also because of the vast wealth of cultural and historic treasures to be found in these three cities The trips usually start in Delhi and move south to the site of the Taj Mahal at Agra then west, to Jaipur (the desert  landscapes). It is normally possible to do the trip by road, train or plane. The Golden Triangle is now a well-travelled route, providing a good spectrum of the country’s different landscapes in short duration. The circuit is about 450 Miles by road. Each leg is about 4 to 5 hours of seamless driving with few short breaks en route to cover places of historical importance.

Bhutan-  A mountainous country, Bhutan is known locally as "Druk Yul" or "Land of the Thunder Dragon", a name reflecting the cultural heritage of the country. Bhutan is the only country in the world that measures happiness as output. In Bhutan, GNH (gross national happiness) is considered more important than GDP. The king and the government of Bhutan are very careful to ensure that their people live a happy and fulfilling life. People's quality of life depends on spiritual values.

Day 1– Arrival Delhi

 A very warm welcome to India’s capital city!!! Upon arrival you will be welcomed by your English speaking tour manager and chauffer. Tour manager will help you with hotel check in and discuss the tour details. Depending upon your flight timings local excursions can be planned for the day.

Day 2– Delhi

Post relaxing breakfast at the hotel, we will embark on a full day city tour. We will cover / pass through all the below listed places of importance. You have option to add / omit places.

Today’s Excursion-

    • Qutub Minar- Built in 1193, it is the tallest minaret in the world built of bricks. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The compound also has an iron pillar famous for the rust resistant composition and is an excellent specimen of ancient metallurgy

    • Humayun Tomb- The tomb of Humayun construction was completed in 1572. The building was the first to use its unique combination of red sandstone and white marble. The tomb was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

    • Agrasen Ki Baoli- Agrasen Ki Baoli is a 60-meter long and 15-meter-wide historical stepwell built in 14th century.

    • Jama Masjid- It was built between 1650 and 1656.At the time of its construction, it was the largest mosque in the Indian subcontinent. The mosque predominantly uses red sandstone & Black marble. The courtyard can  accommodate 25,000 worshippers.

    • Red Fort- The Red Fort historically served as the main residence of the Mughal emperors. Its design is credited to architect Ustad Ahmad Lahori, who also constructed the Taj Mahal.  it was completed in 1648. The World Heritage Convention characterises the Red Fort as representing “The Zenith of Mughal Creativity”

    • Raj Ghat- It is a black marble platform that marks the spot of Mahatma Gandhi’s Cremation. It is on the west bank of the Yamuna River

    • Rickshaw Ride- The Old Delhi Rickshaw Tour is special as it is royal and regal. Hop on board our cushy  rickshaws and explore the Mughal-built Walled City in a comfortable, eco-friendly and adventurous way. This tour is a mix of Old Delhi Heritage and culture. Day 3– Delhi to Agra via Sikandra (130 miles / 3 hours)

After early breakfast at hotel, we will depart for Agra visiting Sikandra enroute. Upon arrival at Agra check in and relax for a while before we proceed to take a spectacular view of Taj Mahal during the sun set.

Today’s Excursion-

    • Sikandra- The four-storied tomb combines both marble and sandstone in its exterior. The construction of Sikandra was completed in 1613. The tomb with is set amidst a large garden and is enclosed by four battlemented walls, each with a large gateway. The 99 names of Allah have been inscribed on the tomb.

    • Agra Fort- Also known as Agra’s Red Fort was built by the Mughal emperor in 1573.It served as the main residence of the rulers of the Mughal Dynasty until 1638, when the capital was shifted from Agra to Delhi. The 40-hectare fort has a semi-circular plan, its chord lies parallel to the river Yamuna and its walls are seventy feet high.

    • Taj Mahal- The Taj Mahal is an ivory-white marble mausoleum on the right bank of the river Yamuna. The tomb is the centrepiece of a 17-hectare complex. The Taj Mahal complex is believed to have been completed in its entirety in 1653 at a cost estimated at the time to be around ₹32 million, which currently would be approximately USD $1 billion. The construction project employed some 20,000 artisans. The Taj Mahal was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Day 4– Agra to Jaipur via Fatehpur Sikri (150 miles / 5 hours)

Post relaxing breakfast at your hotel we will drive to Jaipur, visiting the abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri enroute.

Upon arrival at Jaipur check in and relax for a while before we embark on half day city tour.

Jaipur is also known as the Pink City, due to the dominant colour scheme of its buildings. During the year 1876, the city was painted pink to welcome HRH Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (who later became King Edward VII). It is also known as the Paris of India, and it was founded in 1727 UNESCO World Heritage Committee inscribed Jaipur the Pink City of India & among its World Heritage Sites. It is among the top 10 places of tourist attraction in Asia.

Today’s Excursion-

    • Fatehpur Sikri- It is an abandoned palace city which sits on rocky ridge, 1.9 miles in length and 0.62 miles wide and palace city is surrounded by a 6 km (3.7 mi) wall on three sides with the fourth bordered by a lake. Some of the important buildings in this city holds both religious and secular importance. The city was built massively and preferably with red sandstone.

Day 5– Jaipur

Post relaxing breakfast at your hotel we will embark on our full day local tour of Jaipur.

Today’s Excursion-

    • Amer Fort- Amer Fort is great example of architecture. Constructed of red sandstone and marble, the attractive, opulent palace is laid out on four levels, each with a courtyard. Its construction ensured that a cool climate is artificially created by winds that blow over a water cascade within the palace. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site

    • Jaigarh Fort- The Amer Fort along with Jaigarh Fort, is located immediately above on the Hill of Eagles. The Amer Fort and Jaigarh Fort are considered one complex, as the two are connected by a subterranean passage. This passage was meant as an escape route in times of war to enable the royal family members and others in the Amer Fort

    • Nahargarh Fort- Along with Amer Fort and Jaigarh Fort, Nahargarh once formed a strong defence ring for the city. Nahar in local language means abode of tigers. The popular belief is that Nahar here stands for the kind named Nahar Singh Bhomia, whose spirit haunted the place and obstructed construction of the fort. Nahar’s spirit was pacified by building a temple in his memory within the fort, which thus became known by his name

    • Hawa Mahal- The structure was built in 1799 from red and pink sandstone. Its five-floor exterior is akin to a honeycomb with its 953 highly decorated small windows. The original intent of this design was to allow royal ladies to observe everyday life and festivals celebrated in the street below without being seen. This architectural feature also allowed cool air to pass through, thus making the whole area more pleasant during the high temperatures in summer

    • City Palace- The City Palace, Jaipur was established in 1727. It now houses the Museum and continues to be the home of the Jaipur royal family. The royal family has around 500 personal servants The palace complex has several buildings, various courtyards, galleries, restaurants, and offices

    • Jantar Mantar- A Jantar Mantar is an assembly of stone-built astronomical instruments, designed to be used with the naked eye. The instrument can be used with an accuracy of about 20 seconds by a skilled observer & to measure the time of day, and the declination of the Sun and the other heavenly bodies. It is the world’s largest stone sundial. The Jaipur Jantar Mantar is a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Day 6– Jaipur to Bhutan via Delhi (Flight / 4 hours)

Today we will leave early to Jaipur airport to board flight to Delhi and onward to Paro.  There will be a plane and terminal change at Delhi Airport from Domestic to International terminal. Breakfast will be served onboard or at Delhi Airport.

Upon arrival at Paro we will be heading for Thimphu which is 1.30 hour drive from Paro Airport. On the way from Paro to Thimphu we will be covering few places of interest.

Today’s Excursion-

    • Tamchog Lhakhang- It’s an ancient temple built in 14th century. To get to the temple we must walk across a unique iron chain bridge with colourful fluttering prayer flags.

    • Buddha Dordenma Statue (Buddha Point)- It is a landmark of Thimphu city and you can have a great view of the Thimphu Valley from here. 51.5m in height, built of bronze and gilded in gold, the statue is famed as the largest sitting Shakyamuni statue in the world and there are 125,000 smaller Buddha statues placed within it.

Day 7– Thimphu

After relaxing breakfast at hotel, we will embark on our day long local tour of Thimphu.

Today’s Excursion-

    • National Memorial Chorten- It is the most visited landmark of Thimphu which was built in 1974 in memory of the Third King, this stupa is dedicated to world peace and prosperity. It is a Tibetan-style chorten with amazing paintings and brilliant sculptures. It is also a good place to meet local Bhutanese people circumambulating the Chorten throughout the day in a clockwise direction for praying.

    • Bhutan Post Office Headquarters- Here you can get your personalized stamps (the stamp of your face). Great surprise to send your family and friends a postcard with your face on the stamp!

    • Motithang Takin Preserve (Takin Sanctuary, Takin Zoo)- It is a wildlife reserve area for Takin, the national animal of Bhutan. Drukpa Kunley (Divine Madman), the famous Tibetan saint, is said to be responsible for the creation of this unique creature called Takin which has the head of a goat and the body of a cow.

    • Folk Heritage Museum- It is set inside a three-storied, 19th-century traditional house and provides visitors with a glimpse of the traditional Bhutanese lifestyle, artifacts from rural households, collection of typical household objects, tools, and equipment.

    • School of Arts and Crafts- In this Institute, thirteen skills are taught to students.
    •  
    • Tashichho Dzong- Located by the side of river this "Fortress of the glorious religion", houses the throne room of His Majesty the King, government offices, and the central monk body.

    • Zilukha Nunnery- The nunnery houses around 70 nuns, it is the biggest nunnery in Bhutan. A visit to the site can give you good chance to know about their lifestyle.

Night stay- Thimphu

 

Day 8– Thimphu to Gangtey (80 miles / 3.30 hours)

Post breakfast today, we will be transferred to Gangtey, which is considered to be the most beautiful place in Bhutan. The picturesque drive will offer a view of 7 giant mountains (around 7000 meters high) passing through the Dochu-la pass.

Today’s Excursion-

    • Dochula Pass- Dochula Pass(108 memorial chortens) is a place in honor of 108 Bhutanese Soldiers, there are 108 stupas called the "Druk Wangyal Chortens" representing each soldier's life that was lost in the war. The pass is decorated with colorful prayer flags which are symbols of veneration and the best wishes for peace and prosperity for Bhutan. If the weather is good, the Dochula Pass will become the best platform to get breathtaking views of the snow-covered Himalayas.

    • Black Necked Crane Information Centre- The observation room offers spotting scopes to watch the Black-necked crane. Every year (Oct. to Feb.), over 300 cranes migrate from Tibet to Bhutan for their winter months in Phobjikha Valley. As an indigenous Himalayan species, the black-necked cranes are the holy bird in the eyes of local people as it is a symbol of longevity.

Day 9– Gangtey to Bumthang (100 miles / 4 hours)

Post breakfast we will drive through dense forests of oak and blue pine trees to Bumthang. We will take a photo stop in rural Bhutan.

Today’s Excursion-

    • Yotongla Pass- It is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 3,436m above sea level. The road to Yotongla Pass is one of the highest mountain roads in the country. The pass is covered with mist and prayer flags.

    • Yathra Weaving Centre- It is a sales outlet showcasing textiles woven from sheep and yak wool. Yathra products are unique souvenirs, they are the main income for the people of Bumthang.

 Day 10– Bumthang

Post relaxing breakfast at hotel we will take local tour of Bumthang.

Today’s Excursion-

    • Kurjey Lhakhang- It is combination of three buildings. The upper floor of the Kurjey Lhakhang houses 1000 small statues of Guru Rinpoche. There is also a huge cypress tree near the entrance of the temple which is believed to have sprouted from Guru Rinpoche's walking stick.

    • Jambay Lhakhang- It is one of the 108 monasteries built on a single day in 659 AD to subdue evil spirits in the Himalayan region. Visitors can enjoy watching the mask dance of Bhutan. It is worth seeing the beautiful statues, fascinating relics, and preserved murals in this Lhakhang.

    • Jakar Dzong- Literally meaning "Castle of the White Bird", it was built as a monastery in 1549. Jakar Dzong is now the administrative center for Bumthang valley and houses the regional monk body.

Day 11– Bumthang to Trongsa (50 miles / 2 hours)

Post relaxing breakfast at hotel we will leave for Trongsa.

Today’s Excursion-

    • Trongsa Dzong- Built in 1648, it is an ancient fort where the first and the second King of Bhutan ruled the kingdom due to its strategic position. This Dzong is considered one of the longest and the largest fortresses in Bhutan. It also provides an extraordinary view of the Mangde River. It is now a heritage museum focused on Buddhist art and Royal memorabilia which is worth a visit.

Day 12– Trongsa to Punakha (90 miles / 4 hours)

Post early breakfast at hotel we will leave for Punakha. After check in and relaxation we will visit Chimi Lhakhang and Punakha Dzong.

Today’s Excursion-

    • Chimi Lhakhang (Fertility Temple, Chime Lhakhang)- It is located on a hillock among the rice field and is a pilgrimage for a childless couple to seek blessings. The monk there blesses the couple with a wooden phallus that is believed to have the power to help the childless couple conceive a child. and sizes.

    • Punakha Dzong- This palace stands at the junction of two great rivers. The palace of great happiness or bliss is also known as the most beautiful Dzong in Bhutan. Visit in May, offers a breathtaking view of purple-blue jacaranda which blooms outside the fortress.

Day 13– Punakha

Post relaxing breakfast at hotel we will embark on tour of Punakha.

Today’s Excursion-

    • Khamsum Yueley Namgyal Chorten- Located on the river, 45 mins walk from road this stupa was built to drive off evil forces and bring peace to Bhutan and the world. This Stupa is a typical combination of the art, architecture, and traditions of Bhutan. The location also gives an excellent view of the Punakha Valley.

    • Limbukha Village- This place is known for its love of peace and tranquillity. We can walk along its red rice fields and have an idea about Bhutan's famous red rice which is supposed to have medicinal value. You may meet local farmers in their tradition attire working in the field with a pure smile on their face.

 Day 14– Punakha to Paro (80 miles / 2.5 hours)

Post relaxing breakfast at hotel we will drive back to Paro descending back down from Dochu La, follow the way back up the dramatic Wang Chhu and Paro Chhu River valleys.

Today’s Excursion-    

    • Dobji Dzong is the first model Dzong in Bhutan which looms magnificently on a hilltop. The Dzong was built in 1531 by Ngawang Chogyal, the brother of Chojie Drukpa Kuenley, who is popularly known as the“Divine Madman”. Legend has it that Ngawang Chogyal has followed the spring originating below the throne of Jetsun Milarepa in Tibet.

    • Rinpung Dzong (Paro Dzong), the "fortress of the heap of jewels", is built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal and is located near the crystalline Paro Chu (Paro River). Through a traditional wooden cantilever bridge, we can reach it to get panoramic views of the Paro Valley. As the office of the district administration and monastic body of Bhutan, the annual religious festival Paro Tsechu also takes place in its courtyard.

    • Kyichu Lhakhang- Built in 659 AD, it is one of the oldest monasteries that marks the beginning of Buddhism in Bhutan. There is also a magical orange tree outside the courtyard that is said to bear fruits all year round.

Day 15– Paro

Post relaxing breakfast we will embark on our local tour of Paro.

Today we will drive from Paro city to the start point of the hiking route of the Tiger's Nest Monastery. It takes about 2.5 hours to reach Tiger's Nest by foot (5 hours for a round trip), there is also an option of taking ride on horse till cafeteria followed by short trek.

Today’s Excursion-

    • Tiger's Nest Monastery- Built in 1692, it is the iconic landmark of Bhutan. As a world cultural heritage, it is sited on the side of a cliff at a height of 900m above the Paro valley. It is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Bhutan and a sacred religious site for Bhutanese to pilgrimage at least once in a lifetime.

    • National Museum of Bhutan- It is famed as Bhutan's tallest building (a cylindrical structure), which is 22 meters (72 feet) high and has 6 floors. It was completed in 1649 as a watchtower on the hill above the Rinpung Dzong (Paro Dzong).

    • Cultural dance show- Enjoy the local dance performance by artists.
