Ladakh- Ladakh is the highest plateau in India with most of it being over 3,000 m (9,800 ft). Ladakh is most famous for breathtaking landscapes, the crystal clear skies, the highest mountain passes, thrilling adventure activities, Buddhist Monasteries and festivals. Ladakh is one of the highest regions of the world. Its natural features consist mainly of high plains and deep valleys.
Rafting in Ladakh- Rafting in Zanskar River in Ladakh region is a completely different and thrilling experience. From Leh we make our way south into the Zanskar Valley where we begin the self-contained 7 day river trip through the spectacular and scenically unique Zanskar river gorge – known as the “Grand Canyon of the Himalaya”. The river canyon is rugged and deep with big sandy beaches for camping under the starry skies. Undoubtedly a classic, this is a great opportunity to experience exotic wilderness, traditional Himalayn culture, and the trip of a lifetime.
Day 1– Delhi to Leh (Flight / 1.30 hours) (Altitude – 3500 meters)
The day will start very early today when we leave for Delhi Airport to board flight to Leh (Ladakh).
Upon arrival at Leh. check in at hotel and let your body acclimatize to the reduced oxygen level and atmospheric pressure. Since we are arriving at 11000 ft, we strongly recommend taking complete rest & drink ample water on the first day where we should not indulge ourselves in any strenuous activity.
Later in evening we can take a stroll to the nearby marketplace.
Night stay- Leh
Day 2– Leh to Sham Valley and back (100 miles / 6 hours)
Post relaxing breakfast at hotel, we will be enjoying a guided sightseeing tour of the Sham Valley and later return to Leh for night stay.
Today’s Excursion-

- Magnetic Hill- Observe the marvel when driver turns the engine off with the gear in neutral, the car will start moving uphill as if attracted by a strange magnetic force that defies gravity

- Sangam- It’s the confluence of the Indus River (green colour) and the Zanskar River (blue or brown colour depending on the season).
- Gurdwara Pathar Sahib- Built in 1517, this is place of religious importance to Sikhs
- Leh Palace- Overlooking the old town, this palace was built in the first half of the 17th century and was the residence of the royal family of Ladakh.
- Shanti Stupa- A Japanese peace pagoda nestled atop a hillock. This two-level chorten was inaugurated by the Dalai Lama in 1991. It offers a great vantage point over Leh and the Indus valley.
- Leh Main Bazar- Stroll among locals, where you can do shopping and try typical Ladakhi food

Day 3- Leh to Kargil (135 miles / 5 hours) (Altitude – 2705 meters)
Post early breakfast at hotel, we will drive to Kargil through a spectacular moonscape. We drive over the Fotu La (14,000 ft), a high mountain pass, exiting the Indus valley and entering the Suru valley. Enroute, visit the mesmerizing Moon landscapes and the Lamayuru monastery renowned as Tharpa Ling which means the ‘place of freedom’. Founded in 2nd Century, Lamayuru monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh.
Night stay- Kargil
Day 4- Kargil to Rangdum (75 miles / 5 hours) (Altitude – 4025 meters)
Post relaxing breakfast at hotel, we will leave for Rangdum. It’s a beautiful drive offering awesome sights of the twin peaks Nun and Kun, both above 7000 meters, numerous hanging glaciers and lush meadows.
Post arrival at Rangdum, we will visit Rangdum Monastery and set up camp at the foot of Monastery on a great plain.
Night stay- Rangdum
Day 5- Rangdum to Remala (60 miles / 5 hours) (Altitude – 4400 meters)
Post relaxing breakfast at hotel, we will leave for Remala. This is the last day of driving before we get on the river. We travel over the Pensi La pass at 14,000ft. to enter the Zanskar valley and get some amazing views of the Drung Durung glacier and the Zanskar range. The starting point for the expedition is on the Stod River, a tributary of the Zanskar, at Remala.
The mystical paradise Zanskar Valley is enclosed on three sides by the Great Himalayan Range, The Zanskar Range and The Pir Panjal Range. The Zanskar River is an amazing feat of nature, it has formed a deep gorge in the Zanskar Range over the last many centuries by cutting against the mighty mountains. During the rafting we will come across the deep gorges with sheer cliffs rising for thousands of feet on both sides. During the expedition we would raft for about 100 miles on the vintage Zanskar River which finally culminates in the mighty Indus.

Day 6- Rangdum to Karsha (Rafting 20 miles) (Rapids / Level 2) (Altitude – 3496 meters)
Post breakfast, we will set on our first day of river rafting. The river begins with a class 2-3 section, a great way to warm up and get the rafting teams prepared for the whitewater to come. Raft for about 4 hours with a lunch break on the river. Set up camp at the confluence of the Doda & the Tsarap Chu rivers. One can choose to rest and enjoy the camp or hike to the Karsha Monastery.
Night stay- Karsha
Day 7- Karsha to Pidmu (Rafting 20 miles) (Rapids / Level 2 & 3) (Altitude – 3361 meters)
Post breakfast, we will set on our second day of river rafting. Another easy day to get used to the river, the altitude and hone our paddling skills. Enjoy practicing your paddling skills on class 3 rapids and get ready to enter the Zanskar Canyon. Take in the amazing sights of the Zanskar range and the greater Himalayan ranges as the valley starts to narrow down.
After settling into the camp by mid-afternoon, we visit the nearby villages of Pidmu and Hanumil.
Night stay- Pidmu
Day 8- Pidmu to Neyrak (Rafting 13 miles) (Rapids / Level 3) (Altitude – 3286 meters)
Post breakfast, we will set on our third day of river rafting. This is a class 3 section before we enter a breath-taking canyon. The banks of the river now give way to mountain walls that rise thousands of feet above you. This campsite is one of the few sites in the canyon where one can camp & is perfect for a Layover.
Night stay- Neyrak
Day 9- Neyrak to Lamaguru (Rafting 22 miles) (Rapids / Level 3 & 4) (Altitude – 3190 meters)
Post breakfast, we will set on our fourth day of river rafting. Today’s rafting takes us through the core of the Zanskar A classic white water day with continuous Class III rapids, and a few Class IV rapid where the river squeezes between a gap of about 18ft. We will break for lunch at a beautiful site by a waterfall from the canyon wall. Paddle further through the stunning red canyon and camp for the night.
Night stay- Lamaguru
Day 10- Lamaguru to Nimu (Rafting 25 miles) (Rapids / Level 3 & 4) (Altitude – 3145 meters)
Post breakfast, we will set on our final day of river rafting. Past the Chilling village we will encounter excellent whitewater as the Zanskar prepares to meet the Indus. This is the end of our river journey.
We will be picked and transferred to Leh.
Night stay- Leh
Day 11– Leh to Delhi (Flight / 1.30 hours)
Post early breakfast in your hotel we will leave for Airport to board flight to Delhi.
Night stay- Delhi (depending upon your onward journey)
